    168320 - Sawnee Mountain Preserve Homeschool

    Join us at Sawnee Mountain Preserve for a 12-week science course designed specifically for homeschool families. Students will learn elementary science skills through the exploration of our beautiful trail system, direct observation of forest ecosystems, live experiments, and individual attention from our trained naturalists. Each lesson will be combined with age-appropriate exciting experiences that are fun and enhance student awareness about the environment. The Sawnee Mountain Home School program activities are taught across disciplines linking natural and social sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, arts, and humanities to help learners understand and address environmental issues.

    Parents and gaurdians may accompany their children if they choose, but there is no requirement for parent/guardian participation.

    261020 - Introduction to Mountain Biking

    Experience the trails at Haw Creek Park in this fun, beginner mountain bike clinic! Our IMBA certified professional instructors will introduce you to the fundamental elements of mountain biking such as: body position, bike body separation, pedal position, braking, steering, speed, gearing & cadence, timing, & pressure control. These fundamental skills will prepare you to ride trails safely and have fun! Mountain bikes can be provided for participants under 6 feet tall. Personal bikes that are in good working condition are recommended. Flat pedals are required, no clips.

    Join our certified tree climbing instructor in this two day training focused on basic drt (double rope technique) tree climbing safety, skills and facilitation. Participants will be introduced to basic recreational tree climbing equipment and taught tree selection, climbing safety, rigging and set up, climbing technique, multi-pitching, rescues, and tree climbing facilitation techniques. At the completion of the course, participants may be qualified to become Sawnee Mountain Preserve tree climbing instructors and have the opportunity for continuing education to become a lead tree climbing facilitator.
